WHO WE ARE

Based in eastern Virginia, central to a number of nuclear energy sites, we serve K-12 education through CTE & STEM. 1021 Development LLC is a service-disabled veteran owned and operated company (SDVOSB).

“1021” symbolizes the Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s standard for Operator Licensing, NUREG-1021. Our original mission was to mitigate the problem of the nation’s regulatory exam author shortage by providing:

(1) short-term exam support: development of exams, including validation and administration, and

(2) long-term employee mentoring: development of new authors, reinforcing the existing workforce.

Through customer discovery, we learned the greatest industry problem worth solving is the ENTIRE nuclear workforce pipeline!

Although we still offer regulatory exam support, we now prioritize K-12 nuclear energy education. This is one of the earliest steps, as shared in numerous industry publications, eg., DOE articles, the Nuclear Energy Academic Roadmap synopsis, etc.

Our company is 1021 Development, LLC, doing business as (DBA) 1021 Plus!

Our momentum has created excitement in every collaborating organization: educational institutions, nuclear facilities, regional business development groups, and nuclear energy consortium groups are but a few!

We provide next-gen nuclear workforce education.

This requires tremendous project management through collaboration with diverse organizations. It must create an atmosphere of excitement contagious to the next-gen learner.

1021 Plus does this.

We bring decades of industry experience in plant operations, training, project management, and collaboration with multiple internal and external organizations. There are numerous professionals available who will attest to our ability to execute all of these attributes. It’s done in a way that creates an energizing atmosphere.

This vehicle must meet next-gen learners where they are and guide them to the opportunities offered by the nuclear industry.

We have performed customer segmentation research and counseled with seasoned educators. We use this to create a blended approach to learning. By creating curriculum in a broad range of settings, we strive to maximize learning and enthusiasm. These support goals for program retention.

For the industry, we maximize overlap between initial qualification prerequisites and CTE requirements. This allows utilities to streamline initial qualification timelines. Thus, it fosters an efficient workforce pipeline AND allows financial incentives for new hires.

Singularity of focus is crucial to a successful partnership.

We don’t have the space on this page to quote every industry and educator frustration shared with us. Numerous champions went beyond their full-time assignments to invest personal time, in hopes of creating a healthy industry-education relationship. That is a tremendous ask.
